Hi there!
What can I say about my little family? Well, we are just your average working class bunch just trying to make it in this big world. We have, however, had a bit of bad luck lately.
Let me give you a bit of history. About 5 and a half years ago my husband and I were trying to have children. We both had successful jobs and thought it was time. We had been off all means of birth control for 5 years, and nothing. So began months of sperm counts, hormones checks, xray exams, and then exploratory surgery. Nothing wrong with us. We were getting very discouraged. The doctors wanted to send us to a fertility clinic. We decided to try fertility drugs first. I took the pills for about 2 months and WHAMMO.....I was pregnant. We were so thrilled and excited. About 10 weeks into the pregnancy, we found out it was going to be TWINS! A double blessing. We couldn't have been more happy. Now granted this was no easy pregnancy. I had morning sickness, swelling, nosebleeds, carpal tunnel in both wrists, and I was extremely uncomfortable. But in the end despite all that, we had two of the most beautiful baby boys in the world. They were healthy. I couldn't have asked for more.
Well we began to think about our little house. We had planned to stay here if we had 1 baby, that would not have been a problem. We had 2, wow, that's a challenge, but we dealt with it anyway. I wound up staying out of work for about 11 months to care for the boys. Money was very tight then. So tight that we had to mortgage the house to buy us some time until I went back to work. About 4 months later,I went back to work, and things started back on track. We started paying some bills off with the help of one of Dave Ramsey's books and making minor improvements to the house. We hoped to put an addition on the house to make more room for us, the twins, and maybe one more...God willing. This all brings us to about 3 months ago, the recession hit our household.....HARD! Things began to slow down at my place of work, so much, that I got laid off. I was devastated. Two weeks later, my husband got laid off. Another blow. I didn't know what we were going to do. The bills still needed to be paid and nothing was coming in. We still have medical bills from when the twins were born. For the next month we lived off of what little savings we had. That money was set aside to pay off debt, but not now. We had to live on something. We didn't any health insurance either. My husband's ran out at the end of the month. Thank God we're all healthy. After that was used up, we were looking at probably selling the house and anything else we had. Luckily, two weeks later, I got a call from my employer about a new job, I took it. A new source of income and insurance....Thank God. My husband still hasn't found a new job yet though. We live in the third top state for unemployment...South Carolina. I think it's still going up though. Our savings is almost gone and debts still need paid. The boys are getting bigger. They are almost 5 now. We're still cramped in tight quarters. My dream is to get these debts paid and get my room addition done. That would be great. Nothing fancy, just a little more room for us. We like where we live, that's why moving is not really an option. We don't really know where else to go for help, so anything anyone would like to give would be appreciated. I still lose sleep at night wondering what to do. We have dreams just like anyone else in this world and would like to see them realized...that's all. We just want to be happy and comfortable. Happy and comfortable, what a concept.
Thanks for endulging a discouraged wife and mommy.
