I have never done this before, and I don't even know where to begin. My daughter, Lindsey, is in need of a new wheelchair as well as other durable medical equipment.
We have insurance. The insurance has denied all claims to purchase this equipment for the past 13 months. We don't know what to do. Our daughter's current wheelchair is too small and has been for close to a year. It is painful for her to use on a daily basis. She has to have a custom chair due to having cerebral palsy. She is unable to walk on her own, so it is important for her to have a wheelchair to get around.
We do not have the money to purchase a new wheelchair on our own. Our daughter has gotten big enough that she needs a full time care giver, so I left my job. My husband lost his second job a few months ago. We have lost a lot of income in the last year.
It is hard to ask for help, but we have done all of the right things. My husband works for a company that provides health insurance, but the insurance company is not working for us. Custom wheelchairs cost thousands of dollars.
Please help in any way you can. As a mom, it is so difficult to not be able to provide what your child needs. If your child outgrows their shoes, you go out and buy them a new pair. My daughter has outgrown her wheelchair and her means of independence and mobility, and I cannot buy her a new one. It breaks my heart.
