Severe Periodontal Disease threatening Heart Failure

Bookmark and Share

Hello,

Thank you reading my story and having a beautiful heart to donate for my Full Mouth Restoration.

My name is Olivia and I have severe Periodontal disease… So how did I get here? I have had braces since 1994 that my Mother made payments on and paid it off. Well as time went on, I have always had a job but not a good paying job and bills always came first… Fast forward to October 2017, I was a victim of Bells Palsy which didn’t heal 100% because I had a root canal done in 2008. So the root that was removed didn’t allow for a full recovery.

In 2021, the wire for my top row of my braces broke. And that’s when everything came to the surface in regards to how severe my gum disease really is. The wire was holding my teeth in my gum line because after the wire broke and came out, I have lost several teeth. To the point that the pandemic is over and I still wear a mask everywhere I go. It’s really heartbreaking that my self esteem is non existent. I only go to work and grocery shopping. My family only sees me for funerals and it hurts. I have not been on a date since the wire broke.

I’m well qualified to be a supervisor at my job but I know that me not participating in work functions is holding me back. I eat lunch alone in my car because none of my coworkers have seen me without my mask. Eating is real challenge between bleeding gums, excruciating pain and avoiding the loose teeth it’s a real up hill battle.

Now to the worst part…

Gum disease is a silent predator, lurking in the shadows of our mouths, waiting to strike. It starts innocuously, with bleeding gums and bad breath, but its effects can be devastating. As the disease progresses, it can lead to inflammation and infection, which in turn can spread to other parts of the body, including the heart.

The connection between gum disease and heart failure is a heartbreaking one. When the bacteria from infected gums enter the bloodstream, they can travel to the heart and cause inflammation in the coronary arteries, leading to atherosclerosis, or the hardening and narrowing of the arteries. This can ultimately result in heart failure, a condition that can be utterly devastating for both the individual and their loved ones.

Periodontal treatment can reduce infection and rebuild your bone add tissue to some degree. Another factor is genetics, my father also has this disease but mines is so much worse than his.

I have enclosed pictures so you can see what I am struggling with all day every day. Thank you reading my story and having a beautiful heart to donate for my Full Mouth Restoration.
