Urgent Help Needed for COVID-19 Survivor and His Elderly Aunt

Dear CyberHelp Community,
I am reaching out to you in a time of great need, hoping that your compassionate hearts will be moved by my story. My name is Fred Bulah, a 68-year-old African American senior citizen who has fallen on incredibly hard times. Four years ago, I battled a severe case of COVID-19 that left me hospitalized for two grueling months in Miami. I spent much of that time in critical condition, relying on a respirator in the ICU to keep me alive. By the grace of God, I survived, but the long-term effects of this terrible virus have taken a tremendous toll on my health and well-being.
The COVID-19 ordeal has impacted nearly every aspect of my life. My internal systems – circulatory, respiratory, ambulatory, urological, and gastrointestinal – have all been compromised. Most alarmingly, my kidneys have suffered significant damage. As a diabetic of 11 years with high blood pressure, I am now battling diabetic retinopathy, which requires regular and costly injections in my retinas to reduce swelling and inflammation.
Prior to contracting COVID-19, I was an active and athletic individual. I played basketball, enjoyed tennis, and could run for hours. Now, my mobility has been severely hampered. I was confined to a wheelchair for months, and it took seven grueling months of physical therapy and rehabilitation to regain the ability to walk without assistance. The mental effects have been equally devastating, with brain fog and difficulty focusing greatly impacting my ability to secure and retain work as a software engineer and computer scientist.
The financial strain of these health problems has been immense. My savings have been depleted, my cash flow has dwindled, and I find myself in debt with a damaged credit rating. In addition to traditional medical treatments, I have sought out integrated medicine options such as acupuncture, chiropractic care, and specialized treatments at the New York Center for Integrated Medicine (NYCIM). These treatments, while vital to my recovery, are not covered by my Medicare insurance. Each session at the NYCIM costs $1,500 out-of-pocket, and I have at least six treatments remaining.
To further complicate matters, my 100-year-old aunt, Hilda Morris, is in desperate need of round-the-clock assistance. While she is remarkably sharp and strong-willed, she requires help with day-to-day living. She is currently residing at the Cadia Rehabilitation Center in Wilmington, Delaware, but their services only provide the basics. Aunt Hilda yearns to return to her Wilmington home, but doing so would require live-in support that her dwindling insurance can no longer cover.
Despite these challenges, I remain hopeful. I am college-educated and still able to work, with a sharp mind and hundreds of daily emails regarding employment openings though the market is extremely tight. I am also involved in several promising start-up entrepreneurial ventures. I truly believe that I am on the cusp of emerging from this extraordinarily difficult period, but I am in dire need of immediate assistance.
It is with a heavy heart and great humility that I ask for your help, both for myself and on behalf of my aunt Hilda. Any financial support you can provide would be an immeasurable blessing, allowing me to continue my integrated medical treatments, support my aunt's care, and get back on my feet. I am determined to overcome these challenges and pay forward the kindness and generosity shown to me.
