I am a Navy Veteran of 8 years. I foolishly never signed up for VA benefits after I got out, but am working on that now. I currently am unemployed due to the incident and unable to work a normal job due to surgeries pending.
What happened: I have had back problems and pain for probably over 15 years, and have sought out treatment on many different occasions with some help at times and dismissal at others. In late December I was having an extreme episode of sciatic pain. I had already been working with doctors doing physical therapy, message therapy, chiropractic care, and even injections. Unfortunately the injection had worn off leaving me in a lot of pain. I couldn't get in to the doctor for another injection for another month so they gave me some pills. I was taking the medications that they gave me with no relief so I decided to add alcohol to the mix to try and at least take the edge off. At this point I was out of my mind in pain along with everything else in my system. At some point I guess I looked at my gun as the only way that I was going to get the pain to stop.
Now I am healing and getting use to my new normal of loosing my right eye and the front part of my tongue. I now have hardware holding my bottom jaw together and a hole in the roof of my mouth with part of the bone and top teeth gone. I have a tube in my stomach that I get liquid food through and a tube in my throat that I breathe through.
I am diligently looking for remote typing jobs like data entry or anything like that, that doesn't require me to speak as I am now very hard to understand. However I am having no luck aside from finding a ton of job scams.
Please help this veteran through this time of recovery so that he can realize the purpose for which he was given a second chance at life. |
