Blessings everyone, my name is Lakeila Thornton. I am a mother of an awesome teenage son. I'm also a preschool teacher. I've been teaching at my agency for 10 years. Back in 2015, we were residing in an apartment for 6 years and I wanted a better living situation for my son and I. I wanted to become a homeowner, but I felt it was too far fetched. When I came across Habitat For Humanity in 2018, I thanked God that my dream will become a reality. For the first two years, I was gathering all of the documents I need to be eligible to be a candidate to join the program, but when COVID-19 hit, it all came to a halt. Thankfully in March 2021, things reopened and I was one of the candidates that was chosen to participate in Habitat for Humanity. I was elated that I could surprise my son with a brand new home. It took me two years of literally blood, sweat, and tears; with the grace of GOD. January 6, 2024 was the day I've the surprise of my son's life and it was two days before my birthday. It was a true blessing to see the fruit of labor, giving thanks to GOD, my friends and family that help me through the process see what they have contributed. I was more so happy that I could provide a forever home to pass down to my son one day. We have a place we can truly call home. I was the first in my family to become and homeowner. I felt that things was looking up. Six months into living in my home was a different yet fulfilling. By taking all of the education with Habitat, I thought I was prepared for just about any responsibility that comes with owning a house. To my surprise, I wasn't prepared for lack of income in the summer. As a preschool teacher, I only work 10 months and although I've found a job for the next two months, it was not nearly enough to cover my expenses; let alone my mortgage. That was a daunting experience, but I got back on track when I went back to my primary job as far as my mortgage goes. With inflation increasing, I was not making enough for groceries, bills, and other. I had to pay portions of expenses even borrow against my check at times to try to make ends meet. It was like should I pay this bill or are we having dinner. When things was crumbling, I've also loss my car which put another whammy to my list. Fast forward until now, I'm been praying and keeping faith and now I'm dealing with one my worse nightmares; FORECLOSURE!!!! This is definitely not what is needed. Not only that my car was gone and trying to apply for jobs to increase my income, now I'm going to lose my home that God blessed me with because I don't make enough money. I know this is going to be a real testimony. I have until November 5. That's exactly 30 days, but I God won't let it happen. I need $6000 to keep my home. I couldn't even think of what to do about my son's 16th birthday if we don't have our home anymore. If you can please find it in your heart to bless us with your help; we will be forever grateful. Please help save our home. Thank you
Lakeila Thornton
